Non conformity

“Is it so bad then to be misunderstood? Pythagoras was misunderstood, and Socrates, and Jesus, and Luther, and Copernicus, and Galileo, and Newton, and every pure and wise spirit that ever took flesh. To be great is to be misunderstood.”

Ralph Waldo Emerson

Many believe that Simon Cowell is a mean and rude person. They base that off of the non filter comments he makes as a judge of tv shows he is on. What these people don't know is that behind the scenes he is a nice guy to his co workers and people around him.

Simon Cowell relates to non conformity because his attitude is misunderstood by what people see on either social media or on tv and not on what they see in person. Non conformity does say thought those that are misunderstood are great so in a way that makes Simon a greatb accomplished person.

Self Reliance

“Society everywhere is a conspiracy against the manhood of every one of its members.. Self- reliance is its aversion.” Self- Reliance, Ralph Waldo Emerson

Kobe Bryant played from 1996-2016. 20 years in the NBA and during his career he was known for always putting his team on his back and doing whatever it took to win. Sometimes he would be accused of holding the ball to much and that's because he wanted to do it on his own the way he wanted it to be done. Most of the time it also worked out.

Kobe relates to the idea of self reliance because during his career he liked to do things on his own a lot of the times without the help of his teammates. He was one that didn't like to spend time and hangout with friends but he would rather workout by himself alone.

Importance of nature

“In the woods we return to reason and faith. There I feel that nothing can befall me in life - no disgrace, no calamity…” “Nature” Ralph Waldo Emerson

Bear Grylls is mostly known for being a British Adventurer because he explores all over the world. He puts himself in nature to test his survival skills. He really puts his body to the test and usually knows exactly what he is doing.

He can relate to the importance of nature because he knows what its like to be those things that live in nature because he is out there all the time. He respects everything that lives in nature and that tries to survive because he tries to survive with limited resources on his famous tv show Man vs Wild.

Favoring intuition over reason

“If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away”

-Walden, Henry David Thoreau

Johnny Knoxville is an American actor, film producer, comedian and stunt performer. He is best known as a creator and star of the MTV reality stunt show Jackass. A show where these guys including Johnny do stuff that they really should't. If they were to use reason and think about what they were doing they probably wouldn't do it. He also did a movie called Bad Grandpa. Where his actions were crazy.

He can relate to favoring intuition over reason because of the actions he does. Johnny is a dude that doesn't really think much about what he is or what he is about to do, so usually he ends up just doing whatever it is anyways. Sometimes it can either be a gross or a dangerous thing to do, but since he doesn't use reasoning he would pretty much do anything.

Simplified life

“That man is rich whose pleasures are the cheapest.”

- “Journals 1856,” Henry David Theoreau

Return to Amish is a tv series where normal people return to the life of being an amish person. Amish people live life using the basic needs they would have to have to survive. Which means they do not need electricity or technology. Inswtead they live of the land they live on and there general surroundings.

These people relate to simplified life because thats exactly what they do. They simplify there life without the need of new technologies. Just how people would have lived a long time ago, these people live there life just like them. The only difference is thought that these people do it in the modern era of today which is full of new technologies. Yet these people still today live a simplified life.
