The leading cause of deforestation in Brazil is Cattle ranching in the amazon forest. In Brazil, this has been the case since at least the 1970s. Government figures attributed 38% of deforestation from 1966-1975 to large scale cattle ranching.
The benefits of deforestation in Brazilian amazon are the clear cutting of rainforests that may yield a quick payoff for local villagers in the Brazilian Amazon. Deforestation for cattle ranching can provide new resources such as new roads and investment dollars.
The negative effects of deforestation leads to the loss of habitat for animals, climate warming due to higher emissions of greenhouse gases, soil erosion, flooding and the loss of land for indigenous people.
