News from Mrs. Shire

Parents- Please check your CHILD's email to see if they need to RETURN any books to the school library. Some of these books are from last year. Books can be returned at any time to the library or main office.

Many students have been borrowing our Library books - even if it is not their Library rotation. Library books can be returned at ANY TIME to either the Main Office, or your child can drop them off at the Library.

New books can also be requested at any time using the form in their Library Google Classroom. I will either hand deliver or email the virtual students when their book requests are ready for pick-up. I try to do delivery/pickups every other week.

Happy Reading,

Mrs. Shire

News From The Classroom!

Kindergarten

Hi All! Kindergarten in A-1 is definitely experiencing some big changes. We are sitting at tables and we are getting to visit with each other in person. It is certainly putting smiles on our students' faces. I heard one little voice say, "This is better, right?" to a classmate now sitting across the table from her. We are continuing to write our Kid Writing stories but I do think some of our new experiences will be found on the pages of our Kid Writing journals. Our school week next week is short in days but we have much to do together. Please be sure to have what you need for class each day. Be Well!

First Grade!

We are excited {and a little nervous} for Monday. Please look for information about what to bring each day. Not all items are coming back on Monday. Please make sure your child has the items requested each day so we can work on organizing our materials a bit at a time. All children will need headphones. These will be kept at school. Also, Chromebooks need to be charged EVERY night. Thank you for all you do!

Third Grade

We took our Unit 6 Math test this week along with our Cumulative Math test which covered the math concepts we covered from Units 1 through 6. The students persevered and did quite well. We continue to stress the importance of memorizing our multiplication facts - a critical component of 3rd Grade Math. Please help your child at home by using their fact triangles, flash cards, or finding time to drill when you can… in the car, after dinner, bedtime...whenever you have a few moments. If we know the facts, we say we have “fact power” so focus on those facts not yet memorized or easily found (6s, 7s, and 8s especially). This week we reconfigure our classrooms as the students return to 4-days next week. Thanks, as always, for your flexibility as we establish new routines and rules for our next “First Day” of school.

Fourth Grade

Many thanks to those of you who signed up for your child's parent teacher conference. We're looking forward to (or enjoyed) meeting with you to discuss your child's progress. Just a reminder for those who haven't signed up yet please reach out to your child's teacher and they will be happy to schedule a time that works for you.

The 4th grade team is excited and getting our classrooms ready for your children to return to school 4 days a week beginning Monday, 3/29. Don't forget for those children who are remaining in the virtual setting, morning meeting will now start at 8:55 am. They can look in their google classroom stream for morning work to be posted.

Students returning to school should bring all of their CURRENT books/materials they are working in when they return to school on Monday. They will be asked to bring home any unfinished work from the day and it is expected they finish it that night and return it the next day. It would be helpful for you to review their assignment book with them on a nightly basis. Please know they will NOT have to carry all of their supplies back and forth. They will be asked to bring home their chromebook and chargers EVERY NIGHT so they can be charged and ready for the next day. Thank you in advance for helping them through this transition.

As you know, next week is a 3 day week as we will be starting our Spring Break on Thursday, April 1st through Monday, April 5th.

As we wrap up Unit 5 in our math classes please help your children prepare for their next unit test which will be taken on Wednesday, 3/31. Use the Home Links letter and your child's student journal and home links books to review all the lessons taught in Unit 5. Connect Ed is also a valuable resource that children can play games on as well as review all of our lessons.

In Science we'll be wrapping up our unit on energy and will be testing after spring break. Look for study guides posted in your child's google classroom to help them prepare and review for this final test of the marking period. Beginning with the 4th marking period we will be moving on to our new unit, Water and Climate.
