Echoes of our Hope News update 3 2016

It's basically December and with our previous update we thought things couldn't get more exciting, but the kindness, excitement and generosity of the past few months has truly blown us away, which is why we just have to share some of the details with you!

Term 3&4 in Retrospect:

After much preparation, with September came our opportunity to participate in Cecchetti Test 1 & 2 Exams! And we are delighted that each participant could do their best and improve on their former marks, all passing well with merit! We especially want to thank teacher Kayla Geldenhuys for her help in our preparation, pianist Esther de Jager for her gift of musical accompaniment to our final rehearsals and exams, and Zanelle Wessels for use of studio in these exams!

October marked the month in which 'The Media Oaks' made a documentary about this outreach program in the hope of spreading awareness of how we as South Africans can make a difference in our communities, by doing what we can with the resources and influence we have. It follows the stories of two of our dancers and depicts what we hope these opportunities will lead to in the future! Look out for a link to this short documentary on our Facebook page very soon, as we can't wait to share it with you!

November was show time for our ballet outreach, and the 12, Grade 3 and Grade 4, students were up first, as the 'Midnight clock' in YDCT Cinderella, The Ballet at the State Theatre Opera!

We were delighted that the company's director, Sue Kirkland, and her team noted our hard work and polished performance!

Despite transport challenges, an EFF uprising in Pretoria Central and power outage that almost caused a cancelled performance, the show went on and we saw God's miraculous provision yet again in every instance!

Our highlights include: The fact that that their parents got to attend their performances, thanks to Ultima Financial Planners' contribution for their tickets! The enormity of the Opera stage, getting to partake in the delightful treats of the Cinders and Mice party and the honour of experiencing the discipline yet fun of such a professional environment, also made for memories and lessons for a lifetime!

November also ended with our 22 Grade 1 and 2 girls' first opportunity to dance on stage with their participation in Twinkle Toes' The Paradox of Christmas at Doxa Deo Brooklyn!

Not only did this involve proper costuming, make-up and participation in four dances...

But all 22 had a sleepover at Pure Hope Kids' principal, Riana Andersen's home, to make transport between rehearsals and the performance possible!

Together with Twinkle Toes' students, teacher Larissa Zeelie helped these dancers bring the message of Christ as the real gift and meaning of Christmas, and we trust that they will also remember this in their own celebrations each festive season!

We look forward to 2017 because:

- At least 10 new Grade 1 girls get to join this dance outreach progam, thereby implying that almost 50 students get exposure to dance through this initiative!

- We also intend to participate in the next level of Cecchetti Exams, under the instruction of a new Cecchetti Ballet teacher, Ingrid Schwenke! We hope to have our Grade 5 students, participate in more formal exams without teacher accompaniment, but will have to monitor their standard closer to the exam dates.

- YDCT has also mentioned intentions to continue our partnership with them, therefore we look forward to even more exposure to this more professional ballet environment, through this partnership, hopefully for even more of our girls in future!

- We are also very excited for Teacher Larissa to head up the new Hip-Hop dimension of this outreach, with auditions and Hip Hop classes starting early 2017 to aid the versatility of these dancers.

Right now we are thankful for:

- All the opportunities and open doors God has provided for us in these terms!

- For the overall kindness and abundant generosity we have recieved from so many along the way! This term so many have come alongside us to support our participation in these events, to help with supervision, make-up and transport! We have also recieved many donations of second hand ballet shoes and offers to help with these in future, as well as treats and donations for an end year party!

- Also for God's provision for every need and every little challenge! This includes all our partners in the ballet and dance sector, financial sponsors and the 25% fee contribution from our adult ballet division!

- Our prayer request for enough time for everything, and wisdom in use of that time was also answered this term!

- Lastly, for capable healthy bodies and minds, despite many challenges this year! We appreciate that its almost time for rest and closeness with our families!

You can pray with us for:

- Quality family time for our students and protection when many in their communities turn to substance abuse during the festive season.

- For our students from neighbouring countries who will be returning home in December. For safe travels and for their abandoned homes here (of which many suffered severe damage when abandoned during fires in the camp earlier in July 2016).

- For God's provision and guidance for the Pure Hope program, in terms of meeting real needs and discernment within the overwhelming demand for this school's services.

- For more outreach opportunities to bless others with our gift in 2017.

- We also hope to start similar outreach projects to orphanages and other disadvantaged communites in Tshwane, and for this we need God's guidance and provision!
