Ms. J. Quinton Lorca Elementary - Room 318

Collaboration - Critical Thinking - Creativity - Communication

In the ten years I have been teaching in CPS, I have had experience teaching first, and fifth through eighth grade language arts and social studies. These opportunities have allowed me to see that I can be an effective teacher at any grade level, whether it is at the primary level or the upper level. I have also become skilled in creating and implementing rigorous cross- curricular lesson plans, which accommodate multiple intelligences and keep students interested and focused; in addition, creating lessons that accommodate individual students’ needs. I am dedicated to my career and furthering the development of Lorca Elementary; this is evident in the roles I have taken on in addition to my role as a teacher. I have expanded responsibilities in my school to those of Department Lead, Instructional Leadership Team member, as well as a former PBIS Committee Co-Chair.

My school career includes Reilly Elementary, Onahan Elementary, and Lane Tech High School. For my secondary education, received my B.A. at Northeastern Illinois University, and my M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction with an ESL endorsement. I am also endorsed to teach middle school Language Arts, Social Science, and Science.

Personally, I am a product of Chicago Public Schools, from Pre-K through twelfth grade. I believe in the public school system, and would like to continue my work in making CPS a successful school system, that dedicated itself to our future generations. I grew up in a bilingual household, with my mother from Mexican decent, and my father's family from the south. I was fortunate enough to grow up in the neighborhood, near Belmont and Kimball, so I am not only a product of CPS, but also this neighborhood. I am one of three daughters, and have three nieces as well. If you ask anyone, my pride and joy are shown in the affection for my two dogs, Frank and Charlee. I enjoy spending time with my family, and exploring all the fun activities that Chicago has to offer. I have been an artist almost all my life, and even instructed painting classes. I love all types of art, and try and incorporate those choices into my teaching.

I am proud to be teaching 7th grade at Lorca, and hope to continue building our students into great citizens of Chicago. My personal goal is to make them global citizens, who have limitless opportunities in their future.
