Career Development Preparing our students for the future

How do we help our students choose a career path and prepare for their future?

Career Development goes beyond a simple career or interest assessment. When guiding students in career choices and goals and making a plan to meet those goals, students not only need to determine WHAT they want to do, they also need to know what the career of their choice looks like in the real world. What does a person in a particular career do on a day to day basis?, What salary can be expected?, What area(s) have a demand for a specific career? What kind of education is required for a specific job? What is the outlook for a particular career?

So how can we help?

  • We promote career awareness, exploration, and planning.
  • We provide career development, occupational, labor market, non-traditional career, and postsecondary information
  • We assists students with selection of appropriate academic and CTE courses and provide guidance with CTE Career Clusters and Pathways.
  • We coordinate career planning activities in classrooms, groups, or individual sessions. Some activities we are planning are: "Dress for Success" fashion show, a Truck Rodeo that showcases careers that use different types of trucks/cars in their day to day operation, and a "Meet the Professional" presentations where professionals from the community come in and discuss their jobs and answer any questions the students have.

We also facilitate work-based learning opportunities, provide and coordinate activities for students to develop employability skills, promote the use of technology for career planning and research, facilitate business, education, and community partnerships that provide opportunities for students and support our CTE program.

We serve as a liaisons with the business, industry, education, and military community in order to educate and inform our students of ALL options and possibilities.

We don't choose a "one size fits all" approach but instead take into consideration each students abilities, interests, and aptitudes. In the upcoming school year with plan to really focus some of our activities and events in the middle schools. Our desire is to have our students thinking, questioning and becoming aware of their opportunities. We want them to enter high school knowing the possibilities within CTE so they can possibly start in their chosen Pathway/Cluster.
