Reception Newsletter Autumn 1 - Issue 2, Monday 13 September 2021

THE WEEK AHEAD

This week we will commence our daily Phonics sessions – we will be playing lots of listening games to help us to tune into different sounds and also to develop our oral blending skills.

In Literacy, we will be reading the story We’re Going on a Treasure Hunt and learning to re-tell this story using words and actions.

In Maths, we will begin to explore the numicon pieces – learning the colour and action for each piece. We will also focus on our daily calendar, learning the days of the week and talking about which day comes before or after a certain day. We will be counting to find the date and the matching Numicon piece.

During key worker time, we will talk about feeling happy and sad. We will look at different scenario cards and talk about how the children are feeling, and why? We will begin to think about ways we could help someone who is sad. We will also talk about the importance of rules and together we will generate 3 Reception rules, which we all agree are important to follow for a happy classroom.

Let’s hope the sun shines and we can continue to enjoy our outdoor play area. We look forward to chatting with you over the coming days and weeks. If you have any urgent queries or questions, please don’t hesitate to ask.

Key Worker Groups

Today, you should have already received a letter (via text) about key workers. It is a statutory requirement that all EYFS children are allocated a “Key Worker”. If you haven’t received this text, then please contact the school office.

Dojo Reward Points

This week we will introduce the children to our Dojo reward system. Every child will be given their own little dojo monster. When they demonstrate good behaviour, or one of our Avondale values, they receive a reward point on the dojo chart. At the end of each week any pupil that has received 10 reward points or more is rewarded with a certificate. Every Friday, the two pupils with the most reward points are presented with the Reception Dojo Trophy and can choose a prize from the Reception prize box. Platinum certificates are also awarded to pupils who consistently demonstrate good behaviour.

Children are rewarded for consistent good behaviour at the end of each half term with a Golden Time Fun session.

Reception Parental Drop-In Sessions

Don’t forget tomorrow we have our first Reception parental drop-in session –

• Tuesday 14 September 2021 (3.15-3.45 pm)

These sessions are held straight after school and are very informal. The Reception staff are available should you wish to come and say hello, have a chat about your child or just look around the classroom.

Keeping Healthy - Hand Washing

Learning about ways to keep healthy is a key element of learning within the EYFS curriculum. This week we will learn about the importance of washing our hands, and how to wash them properly. Please click on the link below for a copy of our hand washing poster, which is displayed in our Reception bathrooms. Please try and reinforce this at home as well.

School Lunches

Please find attached a copy of our school lunch menu. It may support your child if you discuss at home the choices for each day, and which one they would prefer. This week (w/c 13.09.21) will be Menu 1.

Please click on this link to view the menu.

Please note menus are subject to change. A file is kept onsite of all ingredients used in the production of our food. This is to comply with the regulations regarding allergens. If your child has an allergy and you would like to see this file, please contact the main office.

School Milk

Children under 5 years of age are eligible for free milk. When your child turns five, and if you wish them to continue having milk, a charge will be made, unless your child is eligible for free school meals. The cost for the full year is £12.00 but this is reduced if your child does not turn five until later in the school year. If you have any questions about this, please contact the office.
