What Makes A Dad by Brie Carter

I heard a great story piece on NPR's Morning Edition this morning. It was a StoryCorps recording. The Dad and his son are talking:

Son: I was a little scared for you. Sometimes I wouldn’t know where you were, and I was scared before I went to bed (cries)

Dad: It’s ok, pa. It’s alright.

Son: It wasn’t good, but now, in the apartment you have, when we like go to see you, I feel safer and I feel that you are safe. And I feel like you are a dad, ‘cause um–

Dad: So what does that mean? What is to be a dad mean? This is very interesting.

Then the son tells his dad about a great poem they have on the wall at his school. It was so great I had to go find the whole poem. Here it is:

God took the strength of a mountain,

The majesty of a tree,

The warmth of a summer sun,

The calm of a quiet sea,

The generous soul of nature,

The comforting arm of night,

The wisdom of the ages,

The power of the eagle's flight,

The joy of a morning in spring,

The faith of a mustard seed,

The patience of eternity,

The depth of a family need,

Then God combined these qualities,

And then there was nothing more to add,

He knew His masterpiece was complete,

And so, He called it - Dad.

I hope you have a wonderful Father's Day!

Here is a link to the StoryCorp recording of that little boy and his dad. It will make you smile, and warm your heart.
