Art for Art's Sake Artwork created by Rachel E. Greiff

This website is dedicated to showcasing my Allegheny College 2016 Art Minor Final Project.

Project Titles: Anger, Surprise, Sadness, Content

Medium: 2D Hand-Drawn Digital Animation

Artist Statement: Engaging my emotions has been a part of my artistic process for years, so I decided to bring some of these feelings to life in a visual way that engages with the gallery viewers. Through research (Strickland) and thoughtful meditation, I worked to animate my feelings of sadness, anger, surprise, and content. I wanted to visually capture the way my brain feels when experiencing emotion. Working to create these images frame by frame allowed me to deeply reflect on my own feelings, which gave me the chance to put a lot of thought behind each particular work. Each emotion manifests inside the brain in a unique way, so I worked to capture my own experience of being overtaken by different emotions through the visual deconstruction of the brain. Through this artistic process I worked to better understand myself and become more attuned to my own personal reactions. By end of each animation, I hope to have others also reflect on their own emotional mindfulness.
