Ohio State of Late

Congratulations to our five Buckeyes (Talani Barnett, Blair Cowan, Kayla Fischer, Brynn Miller and Emaly Vatne) who earned their first varsity jacket Feb. 18!

The Buckeyes opened the spring with a 1-0-1 record. The Buckeyes topped Ohio 1-0 Feb. 23 on a goal by Blair Cowan before earning a 1-1 draw against Kent State March 3 on a Kayla Fischer tally assisted by Izzy Rodriguez.

Also, the Buckeyes recently moved to their new home off the pitch, the Schumaker Complex. The building is where Buckeye student-athletes lift, condition, train and rehabilitate injuries, while also benefiting from nutritional and mental preparation for peak performance.

Leadership Development

Sophomore Marissa Birzon recently took part in the APPLEathletics Training Institute in Orlando, Fla. Birzon went to Orlando Jan. 25-27 to continue to develop her leadership skills in an effort to help promote health and wellness.

Fellow sophomore Lexxe Lipsey attended the Athletes in Action Winter Retreat. A native of Southfield, Mich., Lipsey was the emcee of the event held Jan. 25 in Indianapolis.

Also, Buckeyes Meghan Kammerdeiner, Marike Mousset and Izzy Rodriguez took part in the Eugene D. Smith Leadership Institute Lead Like a Buckeye Program Feb. 13. The trio engaged in the workshop designed to help educate student-athletes and help them develop the skills necessary to be effective leaders of character.

Kammerdeiner also accomplished a great feat in the classroom, garnering acceptance to graduate school at the John Glenn College of Public Affairs. Kammerdeiner will start her pursuit of a master's degree in public administration this fall.
