The Principal's Pen Parent Edition 1 - February 2020

If you appreciate these monthly newsletters please click on the heart at the bottom after you read The Principal's Pen!

We recognize that Black History Month holds a place of significance in the hearts of many of our students, staff, and community members. We believe it is important to highlight not only national Black history events and figures but local ones as well. Central Virginia is rich with little-known Black history that has and continues to, shape our diverse community. We hope that by sharing these stories with our children in February (and throughout the year), it will help inspire students from all races and backgrounds to look beyond themselves to stand up for what they believe in, and change their communities. This month we will share inspiring stories of Black history and achievement during our morning announcements. On Fridays, we are playing music from prominent black musicians during class changes. We will also be launching a Hidden Heroes in Black History contest where students can write an essay, create artwork, or film a documentary to showcase their hidden hero. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me. I’m happy to chat. ~Dr. Brown

Dr. Brown's Final Thoughts

We have been in contact with Liberty University to find another location for graduation since the Vines Center is being renovated. We are hopeful that we will be able to finalize our plans within the next week or two. We will notify everyone as soon as we have our location finalized.

Principal's Challenges

The Principal’s Challenge for this week is about paying it forward. Think about a time when someone or a group did something to help you out. Could you do the same for someone else this week? Get together with your friends this week and think about ways to pay it forward and do something unexpected for someone here at ACHS, or in our community. This challenge is for students, parents, and educators.
