"People learn, early in their lives, what is their reason for being. Maybe that’s why they give up on it so early, too. But that’s the way it is" (page 24)
This quote is said my King Melchizedek to Santiago when telling the story of the miner. The miner gave up on looking for a diamond but it was only a few more feet until he would've found it. I think that people give up on their reason for being early in life because people grow impatient. Once people seek for their reason for being, they assume it will being achieved immediately. When they realize it takes time to achieve this, they give up because they think it might not be important enough.
“Because there is a force that wants you to realize your Personal Legend; it whets your appetite with the taste of success” (29)
King Melchizedek says this to Santiago to tell him that the world wants him to complete his Personal Legend. When he says, "it whets your appetite with the taste of success," he means that the force of the world makes his desire to successfully achieve his personal legend stronger.
“Its not what enters men’s mouths that's evil, it's what comes out of their mouths that it” (115)
“When you want something, all the universe conspires to help you achieve it” (62)
¨why do we have to listen to our hearts¨ (128)
“Tell your heart that the fear of suffering is worse than suffering itself” (130)
