Bye Bye Slavery

Say no to rascism: Reconstruction is in affect. With the president dead, reconstruction is going to be near impossible. With all the crapy leaders giving to us, its almost like its a dictatorship. Why does reconstruction need to happen: reconstruction "needs "to happen because its part of the proceeds of becoming one country together an ad not north and south. What is reconstruction: Reconstruction is what we are doing currently and is the process of putting our country back together and conpleatly abolishing slavery. What is Texas/the south like: particularly Texas is in bad shape after the civil war, their are many racist people and African-American's almost have as many rights as money. Once a beautiful place the south is now in ruins.

Two presidential plan: Abe’s plan: Abraham lincoln's plan was to have ten percent from each state that seceded to decide whether to come back into the United States or stay in the United States since they hadn't legally seceded yet. So ten percent from each state that had seceded would vote to stay or secede. What happened to Abe: A very tragic incident happened during “Our American Cousin” Abraham Lincoln was shot in the back of the head by a man by the name John Wilkes Booth. So his reconstruction plan was demolished and we needed a new president and he came to be Johnson. What was Johnson's plan: President Johnson’s plan had steps to it and they were strict steps. For example, pardons would be granted to those taking a loyalty oath, no pardons would be available to high Confederate officials and persons owning property valued in excess of $20,000, a state needed to abolish slavery before being readmitted, and state was required to repeal its secession ordinance before being readmitted.

Slavery end in Texas: One major character in this major milestone of officially abolishing Texas during reconstruction is Gordon Granger, he was a military leader for the union during the civil war and came down to Texas to make sure that the south was doing what they were supposed to do. A.K.A. Enforce slavery. Another event that was important mostly to African-Americans found out that they were free and were released from their slave owners. They had huge celebrations and really let everyone know that they are “free”. This celebration is know had Juneteenth. After that came an organization that helped bald people have at least something to their names, this group is called the Freedmen's Bureau. This group was good but is under constant threat of racist people killing and destroying this group.

Johnson's governor: Johnson had appointed Andrew Hamilton because he was a unionist. Who were the delegates at the constitutional convention: The original states, except Rhode Island, collectively appointed 70 individuals to the Constitutional Convention, but a number did not accept or could not attend. Those who did not attend included Richard Henry Lee, Patrick Henry, Thomas Jefferson, John Adams, Samuel Adams and, John Hancock. Convention bias: During the antebellum era—the years leading up to the Civil War—North Carolina’s population of free people of color blossomed. This group included American Indians, African Americans, and Americans of mixed race who were not enslaved. Many North Carolina politicians at the time favored universal suffrage for free males of every race.

What does the new constitution say: The band new constitution stopped short African-Americans Texans equal rights. Freed people gained the right of own property and to enter into contracts with the land. But, they were barred to from voting, holding public office, serving on juries, or testifying against a white personal in court. Also, when the ex-confederates took control, the refused to ratify the two amendment. another thing that set back the movement of getting black people equal right is Black codes, this is a thing that restricted the rights of freed people. These are restricting black people from voting, and serving on juries. These restrictions vary throughout states.

Congress Takes Control! Johnson's plan not working: Congress took control because his plan wasn't working because it was more on the confederate side. Radical republicans: Radical Republicans were U.S. Senator Charles Sumner and U.S. Representative Thaddeus Stevens. They led the call for a war that would end slavery. How did they take control: They were against slavery so most people liked them.

Radical reconstruction begins: Congress felt like Johnson’s plan isn't working because they let like he didn't give harsh enough requirements to get back in. These radical republicans were Charles Sumner and Thaddeus Stevens. These radical republicans gained their power by controlling ⅔ of both houses that overrides any veto. Thus, them getting complete control over reconstruction

Reconstruction ends!: Reconstruction ended in Texas on Marich 30, 1870. Many white people in Texas were upset because slavery is a big part of their lives and now it’s gone so they have to do all the work instead of their slaves doing got of them. Many freedmen lived outside villages so they can be isolated from white people so they don't hurt them. In 1872, the taxes were more expensive and both white and black peoples protested together and this is the start of people coming together without no matter the color of your skin.

Who registered freedmen to vote: Abraham registered freedman to vote. How many: Only freedMEN were able to vote. What was the KKK: The Ku Klux Klan (KKK), is the name of three distinct movements in the United States that have advocated extremist reactionary currents such as white supremacy, white nationalism, anti-immigration, and, especially in later iterations, Nordicism, and anti-Catholicism. Historically the KKK used terrorism. Opposing carpetbaggers and scaliwags: They were both from the north and only one supported the union.
