The Smith Student Council is making one last push for Operation: Dye for Charity Fundraising Event. We have adopted 2 families that are in need through The Lighthouse of Oakland County. The goal is to raise $1,200 in order to purchase some much needed items for them. Our final push will be a multiple day fundraiser called "Dollar Dayz". We are asking each student to bring in at least $1 (or any amount) to their 4th hour class. The class that raises the most money will win a pizza party during their lunch hour. Dollar Dayz will begin on Friday, December 8 and run through Tuesday, December 12. Many thanks to all of the Smith community who has helped with our efforts to bring joy to these families this season!

Pictures and information are below, as well as a link for next week's schedule at the bottom of this page. Have a great weekend!

6th Grade Digital Citizenship

Mrs. Chatel, Mrs. Hartenburg, and Mr. Denyes are teaming up to work with Smith 6th graders on exploring the Digital Citizenship ideas to Be Internet Smart, Alert, Strong, Kind, and Brave. All 6th grade students will experience this learning over the next week.

OneTroy Element Bee

7th grade scientists competed this week in the classroom level Element Bee, showing off their knowledge of the Periodic Table of Elements. Eight semi-finalists will move on to the district level.

Students from Smith, Baker, Boulan, and Larson will be competing against each other. The event will start with our guest speaker, Dr. Emil Lozanov, from Wayne State University. Following Dr. Lozanov’s presentation we will begin our competition.

Round 1 Name that Element: Students are asked to identify the element when shown the chemical symbol. This is exactly what we did in class for today's Bee.

Round 2 Find the Element: “Find the Element” asks students to click on the location of 5 randomly generated elements in the table. This is a speed game, so fastest time wins!

Students are encouraged to come support their friends and classmates, and to hear Dr. Lozanov's presentation. Please do not drop off students without adult supervision!

ONETROY Element Bee is on Tuesday, December 12th, 4:00pm – 6:00pm (approximate end time) in the Services Building (4420 Livernois, Troy, MI 49098).
