2019 SAAC Leadership Summit

It was a weekend of idea sharing, thoughtful discussion on the student-athlete experience and community service as Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) student-athlete representatives, advisors and conference administrators met at The University of Delaware for the 2019 Colonial Athletic Association’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) Leadership Summit. Eighteen SAAC representatives from the conference’s 10 institutions assembled in Newark, Del., June 28-30, 2019, to be the voice of their campus SAAC and provide insight on the student-athlete experience.

Over the three-day period, the student-athletes and advisors discussed national SAAC matters, including NCAA legislation, national trends and topics that will be addressed at the national SAAC meeting in July.

The student-athletes were joined by Dr. Jarrod Spencer, a sports psychologist and founder and president of Mind of the Athlete, as well as Kelly Rossi, a sports nutritionist at the University of Delaware. The student-athletes were engaged during both presentations and were able to incorporate the information provided into the discussions and activities for the remainder of the weekend.

Throughout the summit, the student-athletes strategized on how SAAC can work with campus administrators and the CAA office throughout the year to strengthen the conference SAAC program, create conference-wide initiatives and enhance the student-athlete experience at CAA Championships.

In addition to addressing conference and national SAAC business, the student-athletes compiled care packages for United States military service members as part of a community initiative project.
