S.T.A.R. STUDENTS TAKING ACADEMIC RESPONSIBILITY

OUR STORY BEGINS WITH STUDENTS WHO "BELIEVE WE CAN ACHIVE AND SUCCEED". OUR MORNING TIME HAS NOW BECOME OUR S.T.A.R TIME WHERE EVERY CHILD WILL HAVE ALL ACADEMIC NEEDS MET. THESE NEEDS HAVE BEEN IDENTIFIED THROUGH EVAAS, BENCHMARKS, READING 3D AND TEACHER INPUT.

CHILDREN NEED A MULTITUDE OF EXPERIENCES!!
READING AND WRITING MATTERS ALL DAY - EVERY DAY!!

S.T.A.R. Time is "elementary"! Third grade will have 3 sessions of ELA and 2 sessions of Math. Students are assigned to groups based on needs. They will rotate between classes and sessions. All sessions begin at 8:00am every Monday through Thursday. All sessions will be completed by 10:00am. Students will return to their homerooms for 45 minutes so classes are able to work on Read to Achieve and Reading 3D Progress Monitoring. We have one tutor who is a retired teacher working with this grade level.

Fourth grade will have sessions lasting 45 minutes each starting at 8am and concluding by 10:30am. The students will rotate and work in different sessions. When they return to their homeroom it will be expected that Progress monitoring and extended writing will occur. We have two tutors that will be assisting during this time as well.

We are creating life time learning!!

Fifth grade will run sessions starting at 8am and ending at 10:50am with an added instructor for Science. Three content areas will be addressed, ELA, Math and Science. Two extra tutors will be present to double dip our lowest students. These tutors are retired certified teachers with a focus on ELA / Math. Ms. Debrango will be our Science instructor for all 5th graders during S.T.A.R. time.

A letter explaining each targeted grade level (3rd, 4th and 5th) was sent home on Thursday afternoon plus a School Messenger notification was delivered Thursday evening. PINES ELEMENTARY will implement this S.T.A.R. plan starting Monday, March 6, 2017. It will be adjusted as students show growth and move forward with their learning.

We have adjusted our Master Schedule to move Encore classes. We do not want anything to interrupt S.T.A.R. By using Reading 3D, Burst, Lexile Levels, SchoolNet and DPI Live Binders/Wiki Spaces, Pines is ready - "Game On"!

MARCH MADNESS HAS ARRIVED AT PINES!!

Our K-2 plan will involve more vocabulary, including Tier Two words, and the use of Burst daily with "bubble students". We are increasing the knowledge of SchoolNet within our classrooms. We are visiting other schools to see how they are best meeting the needs of their students. (Stokes Elementary, White Oaks Elementary, DF Walker Elementary). All teachers are experiencing professional development/planning days to realign instruction based on student needs.
