John Calvin Theologian

Biographical Sketch

John Calvin aka Jean Calvin was born on July 10th, 1509 in Noyon, France. John was a law student at the University of Orléans. That was when he first joined the Reformation cause. In 1536, he published the landmark text Institutes of the Christian Religion. John had later left France to escape persecution because he was associated with a circle of reform-minded intellectuals. He spent 2 years in Geneva and was employed by the city council to preach, but soon his relationship Genevan authorities weakened down to nothing in 1538. He moved to Strasbourg in pursuit of employment, but John was called back in 1541 to Germany and he became an important spiritual and political leader. John was a law student at the University of Orléans. That was when he first joined the Reformation cause. In 1536, he published the landmark text Institutes of the Christian Religion.

John Calvin has given a lot to society. He created a theological system that defines Christian theology called Calvinism. He was also one of the greatest figures of the Protestant Reform movement. John fits the name of a renaissance because he had all the qualities of a renaissance man. He was intelligent, knowledgeable and had a good understanding and respect for art.
