Life's a Beach Brick House Digital August 2018 Newsletter

Welcome to Brick House Digital's August 2018 newsletter! We're smack-dab in the middle of summer, and hope everyone out there is staying cool. This month, we're putting the spotlight on our illustration and design services.

Custom Artwork

In addition to our fantastic printed goods, Brick House Digital creates custom illustrations for logo designs, t-shirt art, comic books, and more. If you can dream it, we can draw it!

Here are a few samples of the t-shirt art drawn by Jeff Whiting for various screen printers over the last few years. Artwork is presented for portfolio purposes only to be representational of our design capabilities, and no ownership of the images is implied or intended. Click on an image to see a bigger version -

Rock Series by Jeff Whiting

Rush has been my favorite band since I was in high school. I’ve seen Rush in concert four or five times since 1982. I own every album they’ve ever put out. I own a Rickenbacker bass guitar because Geddy Lee played one. My latest art piece is a tribute to Rush, done from a photo by the late Andrew MacNaughtan.

Over the past six months, I’ve been working on layouts for the new Static Live magazine. Static focuses on the music and entertainment scene in the Daytona Beach and Volusia County area and beyond. I take all of the edited articles and photos, and arrange them into coherent pages. I’ve done a few illustrations for the cover art of the magazine. They haven’t been of subjects that resonated with me personally, like Rush. I didn’t do the cover art for issue 6. I decided maybe I would do a few pieces of my own. I could possibly make some prints to sell at conventions.

I just finished the comic project I’ve been working on for the last 18 months, and am getting ready to start something new. While I’m between projects, I thought I would try something a little different, and draw some of my favorite musicians, like Rush.

This piece, featuring Rush, is still a work in progress. It is done entirely in ProCreate on the iPad Pro. I used an Apple Pencil with the ink line tool. I’m almost done with the line art on the figures. Soon I’ll add a backdrop and do the colors. Rush has had a lot of different looks over the years. I felt this image captures the mature, confident version of the band. I may do a stage setting for the backdrop with a lot of color. If this Rush piece turns out well and generates some interest, then I may try a few more and make it a series. Every artist tries to find a niche that they can make their own, and this may be mine.

Studio News

Our Studio has Moved!

One of our biggest changes last month was moving our physical office. Our old studio was a great space to work in, but most of our clients have contacted us over the phone or through email, and very few people actually came to the office in person. By switching to a virtual workspace, we can cut our overhead and be more competitive with our pricing. If you're local to the Daytona Beach area, we can still come to you or meet you somewhere if you prefer to talk face to face. We're always available by phone, email, Facetime, or Skype. Nothing else has changed with our products or services!

We still have the best in business cards, banners, table throws & runners, pop-up banners and backdrops, flyers, feather & pole flags, and almost any other printed good you can think of.

Convention Time!

August Convention Appearances

Last month, we finished up the first issue of our new comic book series, Shanghai: Breathing Fire, and sent it off to the printer. This book was funded by our second successful Kickstarter program. We wrote it, drew it, and published it all on our own. It's 40 full-color pages, and features a cover art by comics legend George Perez on the standard edition, and Magic: the Gathering legend Quinton Hoover on the special edition. All of the backer sketches and rewards will be going out shortly after we get the book back from the printer.

Later this month, we'll be showing the new book at the Pikeville Comic Convention in Kentucky. The show is August 25th, at the East Kentucky Expo center, located at 126 Main St, Pikeville, KY 41501. We'll also be signing copies of other books that Jeff worked on in the past, including the Tick and many Malibu Ultraverse titles.

Static Live

Static Live Magazine

For the past six months, Brick House Digital has been contracted to create and assemble the interiors of the new Static Live Magazine, which features local entertainment and music articles in the Volusia County area and beyond. Half a year is in the can already! We also created the cover art for the first five issues and we're currently working on number seven. It's a lot of fun, and the magazine is available for free at many area restaurants and establishments, as well as on their own website.
