Read Mark 4:1-9 The Parable of the Sower

Again he began to teach by the sea, and a very large crowd gathered around him. So he got into a boat on the sea and sat down, while the whole crowd was by the sea on the shore. 2 He taught them many things in parables, and in his teaching he said to them, 3 “Listen! Consider the sower who went out to sow. 4 As he sowed, some seed fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured it. 5 Other seed fell on rocky ground where it didn’t have much soil, and it grew up quickly, since the soil wasn’t deep. 6 When the sun came up, it was scorched, and since it had no root, it withered away. 7 Other seed fell among thorns, and the thorns came up and choked it, and it didn’t produce fruit. 8 Still other seed fell on good ground and it grew up, producing fruit that increased thirty, sixty, and a hundred times.” 9 Then he said, “Let anyone who has ears to hear listen.”

God’s love is all around us, but sometimes life get rocky, and we forget to look for God's love and turn to Him. When times our hard, Jesus wants us to turn to Him. A very important place we see God’s love is in the Bible. We read about Jesus, who lived in a way that cared for all people and all of God’s creation. He died and rose again. He forgives us for the times we let the rocks of life get in the way of growing in Him. He removes the rocks, so we can grow in Him more and more each day, and everyone can see God’s love growing and growing in us.

Talk
What are some "rocks" in life that might get in the way? What are some things God's Gives us to help his Love Grow in us? Who can help you to Grow in God's Love?
Engage
As a family, head outside to discover many signs of growth, perhaps in unexpected places. Bring a magnifying class if you have one, a camera, drawing paper, and writing utensils. Take pictures and draw the growth you see. Remember these words from Colossians as you explore:

And now, just as you received Christ Jesus as your Lord, you must continue to follow him. Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness. Colossians 2:6-7

Pray + Bless

Dear Jesus, Sometimes life get rocky, but your love never fails. Help us to grow in you each and every day. Amen.

Make the sign of the cross on the forehead of each member of your family and say, "God's love is growing in you."

Bonus

God’s creation has everything a plant needs to grow—good soil, water, and a bright warm sun. God created everything we need to grow, too—good, healthy food to eat, wonderful things to drink, a way to have clothes and shelter, a family and some friends . . . and especially love! God loves us very much—always and no matter what. And that love grows in us so that we can share it with others. Celebrate His love as you watch the flowers bloom!
