Students' Association Update Your representatives 2019/20

Hey everyone! 👋

Welcome to the first edition of the Students' Association update for 2019/20!

A warm welcome to all of our new and returning students. We hope you had a brilliant Summer break. While you've all been off, we have been planning an amazing year for you kicking off with our annual Freshers' Fair!

Your new Presidential Team are in place and are ready to give you the best possible experience here at City of Glasgow College.

Your Students’ Association helps to ensure that the highest levels of learning and teaching are maintained through our Class and Faculty Reps. We also have several events taking place throughout the year which you can get involved in. Our Student Elections will take place in March giving you the chance to be in next years' SA team!

Freshers' Fair 2019

On 3rd and 4th of September, we’ll be hosting our Freshers’ event ‘Cityfest’ at City Campus and on the 5th September at our Riverside Campus.

There is so much happening at our Freshers' Fair. We have lots of vendors attending so you'll be able to get lots of information and bag yourself a ton of freebies. We also have lots of fun activities happening including the chance to meet alpacas! Yes, that's right. We have 3 alpacas coming into the college who will be situated in the Students' Association space - Level 2 in City, Level 0 in Riverside. You'll be able to feed the alpacas and get a 'pic with a paca'!

You can book your time slot to meet the alpacas on My City here. Simply click 'Apps', 'Booking', then choose your timeslot under 'The Alpaca Experience'.

We also have an exciting competition happening over Freshers' week where you can win free Domino's pizza... for a year! Make sure you follow us on Instagram to find out more about this!

You can also keep up-to-date on all of our Freshers' updates by following our CitySA Facebook and Twitter.

Sports Clubs Vacancies

We are looking for Sports Coaches to run our recreational and competitive sports clubs during term time.

Coaches who run recreational clubs are responsible for organising a weekly 2 hour session in our Games Hall at City Campus. Coaches who run competitive clubs are responsible for organising weekly training for their club and accompanying them to home and away fixtures.

We are recruiting for the following positions:

  • Football Coach
  • Badminton Coach
  • Basketball Coach
  • Netball Coach

You can find out more about the positions available and apply on our website. Applications close at 12pm on Friday 6th of September.

My Voice

Last year we received lots of fantastic ideas on My Voice. We're still working through your ideas and we'll keep you updated on any changes throughout the college based on your suggestions.

If you're new to the college, My Voice can be accessed through My City. My Voice is a decision-making online platform to empower all students to participate in the running and development of the City of Glasgow College. This is a place where students can come up with great ideas and share their views amongst the entire student population.

Class Reps

Students on every course in the College are given the opportunity to elect two Class Reps each year. The role of a Class Rep is to gather feedback from students on their course related to their learning experience. This ensures all students get to have a say about the way they are learning.

As a Class Rep, you will:

  • represent student views
  • let staff know what students most enjoy
  • resolve any problems students are experiencing
  • improve the quality of education

The Students' Association offer training to all Class Reps to help prepare them for their role. This is important as it helps Class Reps to know what is expected of them and gives them some useful knowledge on how to carry out their roles effectively.

All students who attend Class Rep Training receive a free Students' Association lanyard for their student ID card. At the end of the year they are also presented with a certificate for attending the training and carrying out their role.
