How do you feel about receiving this scholarship in memory of Mr. Barry McClure?

Receiving a scholarship in memory of someone like Mr. McClure makes It seem more personal and that means a lot to me.

How did you feel when you got the news?

I was happy. It was really nice to be selected as a recipient of this scholarship. Scholarship awards really make a difference, especially when you receive one in your last semester of college. I had the lottery scholarship, but that's only available for four years and this is my fifth year because I studied Abroad.

Freed studied in Nijmegen, Netherlands for two semesters during his junior year.

Mr. McClure was an NCAA Triple Jump Champion and record holder, and seven time All American University Division. He attended Carrollton High School and Middle Tennessee State University and was inducted into his high school and college hall of fames. Mr. McClure held the title of CLUB Champion at several different golf clubs. He volunteered as a coach for the New Mexico State University Women's Track Team. He was a member of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. for over thirty years. During that time he served in the capacity of Polemarch for chapters in Florida and Mississippi, and was a board member of the El Paso – Las Cruces Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. He was also a board member of the Sun Country Amateur Golf Association. Mr. McClure passed away in January of 2011.
