A Great Week to be an Admiral

spirit week and reunion homecoming 2019

Show us your spirit!

This year's Spirit Week themes included Dream Job Monday, Team Spirit Tuesday, Out of This World Wednesday, Cool Camo Thursday, and Class Colors Friday. Who wore it best — the Freaky Freshman, Supernova Sophomores, Disney Juniors or Centennial Seniors?

Working TOgether, Giving back

Every year, upper schoolers compete to see which class can collect the most items to donate to SPAN (Serving People Across Neighborhoods) a local nonprofit who provides food and financial assistance to families in need. This year, the Centennial Seniors came in first with over 5000 items.

Sing for Your Supper

Sing for Your Supper began over two decades ago when Doc Heslin, a beloved former faculty member, told students that if they came to his classroom and sang a song, he would give them a can of food to add to their class's collection. Little did he know, the number of students in line to sing would eventually be so long, he could barely find time to teach his classes! In his memory, Sing for Your Supper has grown into an epic show at the end of Spirit Week.

let's pull together

After Sing for Your Supper, the entire Upper School headed out to the field for a school spirit showdown. Chanting, cheering, yelling, and screaming — every class pulled together to compete for bragging rights as Tug o' War champions.

legacy Family pancake breakfast

Is there a better way to kick off Reunion Homecoming than with a big stack of flapjacks shared with friends and family? This annual event gets better (and tastier!) every year.

40 under 40

Admiral alumni from far and wide returned home to Severn for our inaugural 40 Under 40 event. These 40 alumni are recognized for giving back to their communities, and elevating Severn School’s mission to “pursue excellence in character, conduct, and scholarship, to marshal the courage to lead, and to develop the lasting desire to serve and achieve,” whether it be through their career or volunteer work.

Water Street WElcome

Alumni, former faculty, and friends gathered for an afternoon of good ol' Severn hospitality. From checking out the archives and touring campus to enjoying a tasty lunch and cheering on our Admirals, it was a beautiful fall day of family fun.

Ready, set ... Chili!

For the Gary Jenkins '80 Memorial Chili Cook-off, contestants performed feats of culinary magic in pursuit of the coveted wooden spoon. With names like Mama's Harvest Chili, Storm Area 51 and Campfire Chili, can you guess whose cuisine reigned supreme?

Sunset BBQ bash

To end the weekend's festivities, alumni gathered at Daiger House for a barbecue bash complete with a steel drum band, pickle station, whole roasted pigs and a gorgeous water view. Alums who graduated in a year ending with a 4 or 9 celebrated milestone reunion years!

THANK YOU

We have seen a lot of changes since our first class in 1914. But whether you graduated 20 years ago or your children are just starting their journey, you are the reason our community grows stronger from year to year. What makes our school unique is the vibrant network of faculty, families, and friends who work together to make sure every student's experience is the best it can be. Thank you for being part of our Severn family. Once an Admiral, always an Admiral.
