2017 Classic Trophy 30 September to 6 october 2017
Five days of classic rallying in France with Simon Rossiter
Organised by Classic Rally Tours and Scenic & Continental Car Tours
Reviving the great Classic Trophies of the past, this week long rally visits the glorious Massif Central region of Southern France. With spectacular mountain passes and incredible gorges this is an undiscovered gem waiting for you. Staying at top class hotels a truly magnificent week of fun and excitement can be promised and the value of this event cannot be beaten. Including Dover-Calais ferry, all hotels with dinner included every evening and all rally books, maps and prizes included and with a full on rally or more relaxed touring choice, this is the 2017 classic rally for all comers.
The start : Troyes
Starting from Troyes, the city of a thousand colours, just south east of Paris we gather on Saturday 30th September for a pre-rally meal, scrutineering and signing on where you collect all your road book information and meet your fellow competitors for the week ahead.
Rally Day 1 : Troyes to Dijon
Sunday then takes you south through the vineyards of Burgundy an area of great beauty which is studded with grand châteaux. Regularities throughout the day explore this fine region finishing in the regions capital, Dijon, of mustard fame, where perhaps a bottle of fine wine may be in order?
Rally Day 2 : Dijon to Clermont Ferrand
Monday’s regularities run us across the Loire valley and then up into the Monts du Madeleine. With stunning scenery and some challenging passes to climb this will begin to test the crews and their cars as we head on to our hotel in Clermont Ferrand for a good night’s rest.
Rally Day 3 : Clermont Ferrand to Millau
Tuesday brings the big guns, now onwards and upwards into the Massif Central. Here the mountains get higher, the gorges more spectacular and we push on over the Volcanic Mountains of the Auvergne, across the Gorges de la Truyere and south towards Millau for our nights halt.
Rally Day 4 : Millau to Valence Sud
Still want more? Ok then, Wednesday is the day for breathless scenery, challenging cols and full on rallying. We are now heading East to the Cevennes and through the amazing Ardeche region. Here we have everything a rally crew could dream of; spectacular forest roads, twisting ribbons of scenic gorges and terrific mountain climbs. Having driven over the best parts of the Massif Central a well-deserved rest at our hotel near Valence sets you up for the Grande Finale tomorrow.
Rally Day 5 : Valence Sud to Chambery
Thursday is our last day of rallying, but don’t relax just yet. With all to play for the final day gets us into Monte Carlo Rally territory. Into the Rhone Alpes we take on some of the classic passes over the Alpes du Dauphine, Massif de Pelvoux and finally north across the Chaine de Belledone to our destination for the finish line in Chambery. This Savoyard city will be the place where we host our magnificent prize-giving dinner and with a week’s sport to talk through you can expect a long evening at the bar in front of you. Recalling tales of derring-do and “wrong slots” the party goes on as long as you can! (Photo courtesy of Cédric Chapuis)
The finish : Chambery
The morning after the night before. No need to set the alarm, have a leisurely breakfast and enjoy the surroundings. Take a trip into the centre of Chambery for lunch or perhaps head north on the way back via Aix-les-Bains or Annecy and enjoy even more stunning scenery and lakeside living. Take the option to add an overnight stay in Troyes to your package to break up the journey home.
