With encouragement from his friend Ignatius, he devoted himself to a religious life and formed the Jesuit Order.

On August 15, 1534 Ignatius and Francis devoted themselves to the Jesuit Order

On March 15, 1540 Francis went to Portugal to begin missionary work there.

During the year 1542 Francis went to India and became known there for his wonderful ability to work side by side with the poor and the homeless.

During the reformation, many new people, like St. Francis Xavier, became missionaries and spread the word of God to many places that had never had missionaries.
