As we end our first term of this academic year, may I take the opportunity to thank you for your support. It has been a busy one with lots of exciting learning opportunities, sporting events, school trips and charity events to name just a few.
As always, the children have represented school incredibly well and the positive comments from members of the public about our school have been numerous.
It doesn’t seem nearly four months ago that we were welcoming our new reception children into school and all of them have settled really well and become part of our Avondale family.
Thank you on behalf of the staff for the cards and gifts that have been received this week.
I wish you all a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I hope everyone enjoys some family time, as well as a rest. Treasure every moment with your children – as they grow up so quickly.
Merry Christmas, Mrs Brown
Pupil and Speaker of the Term
Thank you to all parents, family members and friends who have been into school this week to watch one or more of our Christmas performances. We hope you have enjoyed the performances as much as we have.
The delightful nativity performance, starring our Reception children, was both mesmerising and endearing. In the play the children go on an adventure to find an animal and they took us on the adventure with them – amazing.
Year 1 and 2’s lively Christmas story was all about Minty Mouse and the Christmas Tail. The cheeky mice, naughty cats, spinning spiders, wise bookworms – and the usual nativity characters – were all fantastic.
Year 4 and 5 brought us a very lively ‘Primary School Christmas Musical’ and the tunes performed had the audience tapping their feet; even an odd dancer was seen in the aisles! All children played their part well, with enthusiasm and passion - an absolutely spectacular performance.
A huge thank you to all our staff who have worked with your children over the last few weeks in rehearsing for these performances. This year has been really tricky due to so many children being off ill with chicken pox and viruses. Hopefully, everyone will feel better for Christmas. If you have ordered a DVD I hope you thoroughly enjoy watching your child/ren again.
Thank you to all parents and grandparents who donated to the retiring collection at the Christmas Performances. Together you have donated over £410 that will be donated to Cancer Research.
An incredible thank you to Mrs Tipping and her amazing team for a fabulous Christmas Lunch yesterday. Over 400 lunches – with all the trimmings – served in just over an hour; what a feat!

In November all children took part in a competition for Blackburn with Darwen Council and decorated a Christmas bauble, all of which are now displayed in the annex at Darwen Market. The judges found it difficult to pick their favorites but in the end, the colourful details that both Harun (2N) and Keira-Leigh (6J) used on their baubles caught the judges' attention. Both children have won family tickets to the pantomime at Darwen Library Theater. Well done!
