Women's Rugby Win BUCS Championship Final at Twickenham

Our women's rugby team have had an incredible season and to top it all off they came home with their last piece of silverware yesterday, the BUCS Championship Trophy. Our women's side started the match how they meant to finish it and ran aggressively at the Northumbria side. Edinburgh’s Scottish international, Katie Dougan found the line making it 5-0 to Edinburgh early on. Within 10 more minutes Edinburgh had doubled their lead to 10-0 with a try from Megan Gaffney. After the half Edinburgh came out as they had started with an attacking mindset. Rhona Lloyd crossed the line in the 50th minute and just a few minutes later crossed it again with an offload from Elizabeth Musgrove. Sarah Law converted giving the team a 22-0 lead and firmly asserting their dominance on the match in front of the Twickenham crowd. In the 64th minute Megan Gaffney made a run for her second try and Sarah Law, once again, converted. Shortly after, Edinburgh added two more tries with two successful conversions. The first through Amy Walter, and the second through Rhona Lloyd ensuring her a hat-trick of try’s in the final. With ten minutes on the clock, Edinburgh had built a 43-0 lead. In the 75th minute Megan Gaffney darted for the corner looking for her own hat-trick which she successfully claimed, giving Edinburgh a 48-0 lead. It wasn't until the last minute that Northumbria got themselves onto the scoresheet with a try, ending the game 48-5.

A huge congratulations to everyone involved in Edinburgh's women's rugby side, you did us all proud! Thank you also to everyone who watched from home and travelled to Twickenham to support the team!

EULRFC A Historic Season

The BUCS championship isn't all our women's rugby side have won this season. Last weekend they also hosted their Sarah Beaney Cup tie at Peffermill taking them to the semi-final of the Sarah Beaney Scottish Cup. The women's side have also won the BUCS Prem League North and still have BUCS 7s to go! Edinburgh University women's rugby have also heavily represented at international level, helping Scotland to their highest Six Nations finish in years. Well done to all the team and especially Coach Cruikshank!

Pride at Pleasance

Last weekend, Sport & Exercise at Pleasance played host to our partners Caledonia Pride, in a historic match for the first Scottish Women's Professional side. The team who train at Pleasance regularly and harbour 8 Edinburgh University Players and 2 Coaches in Bart Sengers and Jordan Webb, faced Sheffield Hatters on Saturday at 1pm in front of a sell out crowd. Thank you to all from Sport & Exercise involved in making this such an incredible match with such a great atmosphere. The rewards came in the form of the team's first home win! See more on the match below!

Success for Caledonia Pride in First Home Win

Caledonia Pride came out strong in the first half of their match against 4th place, Sheffield Hatters, leading at the half 43-39. It was a strong showing from a team that had been handed two heavy losses to Sheffield this season already. In the 4th quarter the Hatters started to show their experience, going on a run and leading by 10 points with just 3 minutes to go. However, Pride were not going down at home without a fight. A change of tactics and some aggressive defence and fast offence saw them force turn overs and convert at the other end. Edinburgh University freshman Hannah Robb came up with a last minute 3pt shot to bring the team within 1 point of the leaders and Post Graduate, Natalie Bastian later converted 2/2 free throws to tie the game and take the 1pt lead needed to secure Pride their first ever home win! Congratulations to the whole team on a great performance! The final score was 79-78.
