Summary

'We have a responsibility to awe'
  • The greek root for the word 'awe' is to breathe in and take it in
  • Humans create mental habits which become comfort zones. This is called Hedonic Adaption (over stimulation to the same kind of thing). This is when the brain maps the same thing over and over again until it is no longer engaged with something as it doesn't have to be
  • Small or standard things that are normal or not important can be amazing given full attention, for example a blade of grass
  • Experiencing wonder and aw expands perceptual¬†parameters¬†(how we veiw the world) so we have to rethink what we already know and see
  • Amazement leads to assimilation (a psychological term used to explain the development of the brain to accommodate for new information)
  • Awe inspires us
He who can no longer pause to wonder and stand rapt in awe, is as good as dead; his eyes are closed - Albert Einstein
