On December 1631 an unexpected eruption happened.

Mount Vesuvius is the only active volcano is Europe on mainland. It destroyed the cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum. Mt. Vesuvius is considered to be one of the most dangerous volcanoes. Scientist has detected a tear in African plate. The slap window" they that causes heat to come up and can cause violent explosions because it build pressure. The last serious eruption was in 1944.

This is the city of Pompeii after the eruption. 2,000 people died.
This is the city of Herculaneum. it's 4.5 miles away from mount Vesuvius. It wasn't as bad as the disruption in Pompeii. About 30 bodies were found there.
This is the city of Oplontis. 54 people died.
This is the city of Stabiae after the eruption. Many people died. 3600 people died.
