Giovanni da Verrazzano sailed for King Frances of France. His brother was a mapmaker and he sailed with him. His name was Girolamo da Verrazzano. There were looking for a passage to the Pacific Ocean in Asia. Instead they found the east coast of north America . He fired a musket at the native Americans because he was scared. He is important because he is named after a bridge
