Ainthorpe Primary School Newsletter 24th March 2021

What a few weeks!

What a busy few weeks it has been since all of the children returned to the school. There's been lots of learning going on as well as children getting back used to the school routines. It has been lovely to see all of the children back in school every day.

Thank you for your support during this time. Obviously sometimes it can be very difficult to organise things in the current climate but we are always looking at ways to make sure that they happen where possible.

We will keep you informed of any dates and updates as we know them with an extended list after the Easter break. We are looking at ways as to how we can celebrate with our Year 6 children as well as our usual annual events.

Term dates

School closes - Friday 26th March 2021 - Reopen - Monday 12th April 2021

Monday 3rd May - May Day Bank Holiday

School closes - Friday 31st May - Reopen - Monday 7th June 2021

School closes for summer holidays - Friday 23rd July 2021.

Reading at home

After the Easter holidays, we will be taking part in the DRET10 challenge. This is where we want as many of our children (and staff) to read at least ten books in the summer term.

It is an expectation that children read for approximately ten minutes per day at home, five times per week as part of their homework. After the holiday, we will be sharing a link where reading can be logged using a Google Form rather than a reading diary coming home. This means that the record of your child reading will go straight to the class teacher and there is no worry about lost reading records!

We will share the link in every newsletter so that you can easily find this. It is also here for you to access via the QR code or the following link; https://forms.gle/LfxPkvTiq5kBrc3z6

As well as this, we will also be launching our writer of the fortnight. Each phase will look at the books of a different author every two weeks and may come across some new books that they might be interested in!

We are also in the process of further developing our school studio to become a multi-purpose room which will be a rehearsal room for our school choir as well as a library. Once it is set up, children will have the opportunity to visit during the school day as well as on certain days after school to swap books!

Assembly

After the Easter holidays we will be restarting our celebration assemblies and sharing these on Facebook and via a link on our school website. It is always a highlight of my week, sharing the good work that has been completed in the school.

Testing

As you are aware, staff at the school will be taking regular Covid tests in-line with all other schools in the country. We are hoping that things will continue as normal with the school remaining open. Obviously, there is still a possibility of positive results and we will inform parents as early as possible if this occurs as specific groups coming into the school would need to isolate if this happened. Remote learning would still be available if this occurred.

Menu - April 2021

Our new school menu is below. Lunches will be served as normal with children currently eating in their classrooms (until we can use the hall again).

Uniform

If you have any old school jumpers that are too small for your child, we would love to have them. We are setting up a uniform 'shop' where donated sweatshirts will be sold for a nominal charge. More on this to follow but if you have any donations we would be very grateful.

My child at school app.

Thank you to everyone who has recently installed the My child at school app. We are sending out more notifications using this method so please make sure you download it if you haven't already done so.

If you need help with this, visit the school office who will set it up for you.

Raffle, decorate eggs and bonnets!

As per previous emails, Friends of Ainthorpe are completing an Easter raffle. Tickets are 20p each and there are lots of eggs that can be won! Send your money in with your child and their class teacher will make a note of this and make sure that they are in the raffle. These will be on sale until Thursday with the draw being made on Thursday evening - prizes will be shared before the Easter break.

Our children in Foundation Stage can decorate Easter Bonnets which they will (safely) parade around the school to show all of the children.

We are still holding our Decorate an egg competition as well. Please bring in completed designs by Thursday 25th March with winners being announced on Friday.

Comic Relief

Thank you to you all for the kind donations. In total, we raised £250 for Comic Relief.
