Santorini It's worth it.

Oia was our land base for two days. It's on the northern side of the island, smaller than Fira, with stunning sunset views. Image by Michael Girman

There is one vantage spot in Oia, where one can watch the sunrise and sunset. It's packed with selfie-stick/phone/camera wielding tourists. Find your spot, don't move, don't give way. It's worth it.

I'm a New Yorker, crowds don't mean shit to me.

Santorini is so goddamn picturesque

Zoe Houses - Oia
In spite of the last minute booking, Gabriele found us ZOE in Oia. Oh Yeah!
Two adjoining "houses" with a balcony overlooking the caldera. House 1 with Loft can accomodate up to 6.

Arkotiri

We rented a van and took a day trip to the southern end of the island, Arkotiri - the excavation site for a Minoan Bronze Age settlement. Akrotiri was buried by the massive Theran eruption in 17th century BC and is remarkably well-preserved. Frescoes, pottery, furniture, advanced drainage systems and three-story buildings have been discovered at the site. Locals like to believe that the city was the basis for the legend of Atlantis. We took a guided tour of the site lasting an hour, which I highly recommend.

Minoan city

Santorini was on Frankie's bucket list. We made the trip there largely because of her insistence. We have no regrets. Thank you, Frankie.
