There is one vantage spot in Oia, where one can watch the sunrise and sunset. It's packed with selfie-stick/phone/camera wielding tourists. Find your spot, don't move, don't give way. It's worth it.
Santorini is so goddamn picturesque
Fira the capital
Arkotiri
We rented a van and took a day trip to the southern end of the island, Arkotiri - the excavation site for a Minoan Bronze Age settlement. Akrotiri was buried by the massive Theran eruption in 17th century BC and is remarkably well-preserved. Frescoes, pottery, furniture, advanced drainage systems and three-story buildings have been discovered at the site. Locals like to believe that the city was the basis for the legend of Atlantis. We took a guided tour of the site lasting an hour, which I highly recommend.
Santorini was on Frankie's bucket list. We made the trip there largely because of her insistence. We have no regrets. Thank you, Frankie.
