DIASPORA SOL August 29-31, 2019

A 3 DAY AFRICAN DIASPORA HEALING EXPERIENCE

Hosted by The African Diaspora Alliance, Black Earth Farms, and Somos Mucho Mas

Seeds

Diaspora Sol is a platform rooted in dismantling anti-black, anti-indigenous, racist, transphobic, homophobic, sexist, and ableist institutions that exist in our respective communities.

Roots

The goal of Diaspora Sol 2019 is to bring together a community of healers, scholars, activists, hair stylists, mental health specialists, community organizers, farmers, and artists for 3 Days to exchange tangible methods of sustainable healing and nation building. Using various holistic healing methods to alleviate trauma, we will facilitate workshops inclusive of yoga, guided meditation, music, visual art, and natural haircare.

SOMOS MUCHO MAS

"Somos Mucho Mas" began as a femme rap project in 2012 out of a need to make visible the work of women rappers in Cuba. Now, "Somos Mucho Mas" has transformed to become a promotional platform for women of all manifestations to showcase their art. The project continues to be community based, led by and addressing the needs of afro-descendants and feminists. Our principal objective is to make the work of women artists visible and through that, bring empowerment to women. We work to eliminate social norms that are implicitly violent towards women. To achieve all of this we organize workshops, conferences, collective exhibitions, concerts, and international cultural exchanges.

THE AFRICAN DIASPORA ALLIANCE

Our mission is to holistically connect descendants of Africa to the global African community, known as the African Diaspora. Through our organization we seek to educate, encourage unity, and promote solidarity throughout the African Diaspora. Across all borders, through the services offered by ADA the Diaspora is demystified and the mutual "exoticization" of the foreign ‘other’ is replaced with understanding and connectedness. Our premiere "Youth of the Diaspora Program" has taken Baltimore Youth to Havana, Cuba to study abroad since 2016. ADA's diverse initiatives such as The Diaspora Reunion, and Diaspora Excursions help support our "Youth of Diaspora" after-school and study abroad program.

BLACK EARTH FARMS

The Black Earth Farms Collective is an agroecological lighthouse organization composed of skilled Pan-African and Pan-Indigenous farmers, builders and educators, spreading ancestral knowledge and training community members to build collectivized, autonomous, and chemical free food systems in urban environments throughout the East Bay and South Central Los Angeles. Our work regenerates our community’s connection to and reverence for the land, which was severed from our ancestors through colonial violence. Through this connection we strive to unravel antiblackness within our respective communities.
