final major project reflective journal week 3 by tom rafferty

-As I am focusing on the art for my project most of my reflective journal will be focused on any issues, feats, discoveries etc. in the art side of the game, this will not completely rule out any talk of code/sound as I will talk about how my graphics work impacted that work.

This week I began writing the lore for the game, I encountered problems with linking it all together as our story is undeveloped at this point in time as we really wanted to focus on getting the assets done. speaking of which this week I worked on the building/architecture tilesset.

on top of the tileset work I have been doing I also worked on some graphics for spells. I did a fire spell and an ice spell, as well asa book and a few other items that will allow the player to cast spells

Me and Mitch like the way the spell book turned out, however Anthony didn't like it and we all agreed that we all have to like something for it to go in the final product, so for now if needed it will do as a place holder and I will replace it at a later date but I have other things I need to be working on for now.

I also animated my example NPCs, this will allow me to build many more NPCs from these guides, this way they will all act similarly but all have unique properties.

This is the sprite sheet I created to help me create more NPCs much more easily. the way they help is they give basic structure to a character without having too much detail or unique feature so i can define those for each character, they are essentially a little guide for me to trace and add to so I can quickly make more characters that will populate the game world. To create all the graphics so far I have used photoshop, I used the pencil tool mostly set to one pixel brush size and everything is made on a 16x16 grid system, for example all normal human characters will be 16x16

overall I feel like I got a nice amount done this week, I have created things that will help me progress and things that will help the others continue with the game, for example the tileset will allow for basic buildings and constructions to be added to the game world, I feel very confident about our project and it feels really good to be working on a team and hear frequent support and questions towards my work, I constantly feel involved and everything I make seems valued in some way. In the coming weeks I hope to add some enemies maybe, defiantly need to make the interior tileset and possibly some concept art.
