IN THE SHOES OF A WEDDING PLANNER: PROJECT WORK ON EMMA BY JANE AUSTEN

TWENTY-FIRST CENTURY INTERPRETATION OF EMMA WOODHOUSE AND GEORGE KNIGHTLEY'S WEDDING

GUIDELINES:

IMAGINE YOU WORK AS AN ASSISTANT FOR BRIDESCLUB, ONE OF THE 10 TOP AGENCIES FOR 2016 PLACED IN LONDON. YOUR AGENCY HAS BEEN SELECTED BY EMMA WOODHOUSE AND GEORGE KNIGHTLEY FOR THEIR WEDDING. EACH ONE OF YOU HAS BEEN APPOINTED TO COMPLETE SOME OF THE WORK FOR THE WEDDING. YOU WILL BE WORKING IN PAIRS. TWO PAIRS WILL BE WORKING INDEPENDENTLY ON EACH OF THE TASKS.

*The most important part of the job is to have excellent coordination as a group, since what each pair will be working on is part of the whole wedding plan. The General Manager is responsible for coordination and budget. Although you should keep the details for the final presentation, it is advisable to cooperate with the other pairs and be informed what they are doing.

CLIENT’S PROFILE:

EMMA WOODHOUSE: a typical intelligent 21 c. young woman, coming from a well-to-do family; university graduate with a promising career in journalism; likes travelling, exotic places, adventures, fashion; romantic personality;

GEORGE KNIGHTLEY: an ambitious young man following the steps of his father, a prosperous businessman; university graduate; likes fast cars; has a taste of good food and wine; a good cricket player, not professional; although comfortable off, spends money wisely;

STEP ONE:

As a class:

1. Use the blog on the project on Seesaw website to discuss important issues.

2. Read the clients’ profiles and agree on the type of wedding (time, season, place, etc.) the bride-to-be and groom-to-be would like to have.

3. The General Manager comes up with a proposal for the budget of the wedding.

4. Discuss with the general manager the budget for the wedding.

5. Agree on how much you are allowed to spend on your part.

6. Agree on deadlines (including your report to the General Manager).

7. Report back to the General Manager (money spent/left, etc. important issues) on time so that he can prepare the final report.

STEP TWO

As a pair:

1. Find your partner.

2. Read the client’s profile and decide how to organize your work.

3. Go to Seesaw website and use the Wedding planner guidebook concerning your task. https://app.seesaw.me/

4. Make a detailed plan for your work.

5. Cooperate with the pairs working on other tasks.

6. Prepare presentation/poster, etc.

7. Upload your presentation in your e-portfolio on Seesaw.

GUIDELINES FOR THE PRESENTATION:

1. Prepare a 1-2 min presentation (pics, video, audio, etc.) with your ideas.

2. Your ppt should have not more than 10 slides, including the title with your names and the final one with sources.

3. Both of you must take part in the presentation.

4. You should explain your choice of time, place, clothing, food, etc. depending on your task.

5. You should say what makes your proposal better.

FORMAL ASSESSMENT OF CONTENT AND PRESENTATION SKILLS:

1. PEER ASSESSMENT. (ONLY STUDENTS WORKING ON OTHER TASKS WILL BE ALLOWED TO ASSESS PEERS’ WORK)

2. TEACHER WILL ASSESS PROPOSALS.

STUDENTS ARE OBLIGED TO COMPLETE THESE STEPS AND PRESENT BEFORE THEIR LITERATURE CLASS ON WUTHERING HEIGHTS BY E. BRONTE
