The yellow brick road of Courage: St Mary's school Penzance.

I wonder if you remember the musical "the wizard of Oz" and the girl, Dorothy, who was trying to find her way back home? On her journey following the yellow brick road she the met three characters who were also on a journey looking for help for their lives. The character looking for courage was the lion.....ironic , as we usually associate lions as being very brave creatures.

The school used this story to help the children to think about what it might mean to show courage. Youngsters were challenged to write about something brave that they might have done outside school in one of the yellow brick squares in the school hall ......the yellow bricks made up made up the yellow brick road.....

" I showed courage when I went to the dentist ".

" I showed courage when I went on a sleepover"

" I showed courage be trying some new food....and I ...didn't like it!"

Whilst travelling on the yellow brick road with the others the lion did find his courage. He found courage with the help of his new found friends.

Many of the children also thought that they found it much easier to be brave and show courage when they were with their friends or family.

I wonder how we help others to find courage ?

As we listen to the news I wonder who are the people we believe help others to be courageous ?
