Dear Candidate,

Thank you for your interest in the role of Teacher of Science at Huxlow Science College. We trust this application pack provides you with an insight into life at our College and encourages you to apply for the role of Teacher of Science.

We are incredibly proud of our school, a medium sized Secondary Academy (11-18), located in Irthlingborough, East Northamptonshire. After a fantastic Ofsted in June 2016 we have remained committed to becoming an outstanding school for our students.

In 2019, Year 11 students achieved some of the best GCSE results in the College’s history. 53% of students gained 5 GCSE’s including English and Maths at Grade 4 and above. We were delighted by these excellent results which reflect the high level of dedication of both our students and staff. This has strengthened our position on our journey to becoming an outstanding school.

We are extremely proud of a strong tradition of exciting and hands on practical science, resulting in excellent results across the board in Science at Huxlow. Students are keen to learn and often go on to study A Level and BTEC Science courses successfully at our sixth form.

At Huxlow we are committed to ensuring all students are happy, feel safe and are taught exceptionally well. These are important ingredients to prepare students for their next steps and academic success. We are passionate about caring for our students and ensuring that they are all known as individuals. Ofsted stated that, “everyone in the school puts pupils’ well-being at the centre of everything they do”.

We are equally devoted to caring for our staff. Our Wellbeing Group are committed to initiatives at the forefront of staff well-being. We have signed the Time to Change Pledge and are driving through the action plan for continuous improvement and removing the stigma around mental health. Our latest staff survey judged staff morale to be outstanding.

Academic success is hugely important to us as we recognise its power to open doors for young people. We have a rich history of students of all abilities, and from a wide variety of backgrounds, meeting and exceeding their potential.

Highly effective support and guidance mechanisms support us to meet all students’ needs. As a result our pupils behave well. Ofsted stated, “Pupils know the high standards of behaviour expected of them” and “as a result, they behave well in lessons”.

Huxlow is a community where we are all committed to being the very best we can be. Our students are exceptional, staff go the extra mile and we are dedicated to Professional Learning and Development. Please explore our website, and in particular the newsletter section, to gain a flavour of what it means to be part of the Huxlow Science College community. We hope you are as impressed by our school as we are and are encouraged to join us.

Yours sincerely, Kim Isaksen (Headteacher)
