Setting

the setting of the story takes place in president day long Island and New York City in the early 1920s. the islands where also know as west egg and east egg.

summary

Nick moves to new York in 1922 and becomes a bond salesman. he gets a house in the west egg district of Long Island. his next door neighbor is a mysterious man named Jay Gatsby that throws epic parties every Saturday night hoping to find Daisy. Nicks goes to have dinner with his cousin Daisy Buchanan. one day in the summer nick get an invitation to one of Gatsby’s legendary parties, and he meets Mr. Gatsby himself. At a luncheon at the Buchanans’ house, Gatsby stares at Daisy Though Tom is himself involved in an extramarital affair, he is deeply outraged. He forces the group to drive into New York City, where he confronts Gatsby in a suite at the Plaza Hotel. Tom asserts that he and Daisy have a history that Gatsby could never understand, and he announces to his wife that Gatsby is a criminal, and that his fortune comes from bootlegging alcohol and other illegal activities. Nick, Jordan, and Tom drive through the valley of ashes, however, they discover that Gatsby’s car has struck and killed Myrtle, Tom’s lover. Gatsby is killed at his house in the back yard by his pool.

Turning point

the turning point is when Nick, Tom, Daisy, Jordan, and Gatsby go to the hotel in New York City to have a couple of drinks. during this time, Tom start reveling the past of Gatsby trying to show Daisy who he really is. Gatsby let Daisy drive and she kills Myrtle by accident and Gatsby takes the blame.

outcomes

The outcome of the story is that Gatsby finds Daisy and he tries to take her from tom and he get furious. daisy drives Gatsby car and she hit a person and kills them. Gatsby is killed and nick calls daisy trying to get her to come to his funeral, but she refuse and they leave. nick finish telling the story to a therapist.

Recommendation

Yes i would highly recommend this book to someone else. the great gatsby has breif history in it, also the book show us how the rich people acted in the 1920s. the book is an good example of American literature in the traditon of tragic love stories. The Great Gatsby is a true example of the American dream and consumerism that reflex the dark side of human nature.
