Saint Rose of Lima By madeline diamond

I chose her because she is my favorite saint.

Her feast day is August 23. She is the patron saint of Latin America and Phillipines. She was born in 1586, and she died in 1617.

She is remembered for her piety and chastity. She was born in Lima, Peru to Spanish colonists, named Isabel Flores de Olivia, because or her exceptional beauty. They nicknamed her Rose because of her beauty. According to a legend, a servant had a vision where her face turned into a rose. At her confirmation in 1597, she officially took the name of Rose. Ever since Rose was young she really wanted to become a nun. She was always praying and fasting in secret. Rose's parents wanted her to marry, but Rose wanted to take a vow of chastity. When she turned 20, she was allowed to join the Third Order of St. Dominic. She continued a life of prayer, fasting and penance. On one occasion she burned her hands as a self-imposed act of penance.

Dear Saint Rose of Lima please bless me. Please help me to be happy and to do my best in school, and everything that I do. Please lead me through life, and lead me to always make the right decision. Amen
