About Do Something

Do Something is a global non-profit organization based out of New York City whose goal is to motivate youth to make a positive change. Both online and offline, over 5.5 million young people have participated in campaigns fighting for numerous different causes nationally.

The company culture at Do Something is welcoming, energetic, and enthusiastic. The group of individuals who works for the non-profit encourages millennials to fight apathy and quote-on-quote...

Values

Do Something stands for philanthropy and service as it yields to represent those who care about bettering the greater good. They emphasize the importance of having a drive to succeed and communicate well on a team of equally motivated individuals. Furthermore, the company encourages students nationally to join their global movement of young people tackling local campaigns.

Finance/Audit Internship

The Do Something Internship Program places extraordinary value on its interns because the youth of today are their target demographic. With that being said, the Finance/Audit Intern spot provides an opportunity for a college student such as myself with the responsibility of working on my own personal projects, setting goals for completion, and reporting all information to a higher employee. Furthermore, the interns are exposed to meetings once a week where innovation is encouraged and learning is a must. Although learning about finance in the non-profit world and gaining general accounting experience are both two aspects of the internship I highly value, I care the most about the greater purpose this organization represents.

Since high school, I have participated in numerous campaigns provided by Do Something and have first-hand experienced what it means to give back through this organization. Numerous examples of campaigns include

  • "Teens for Jeans" that donated 5 million pairs of jeans to the homeless
  • "Diversify My Emoji" that powered the petition that convinced Apple to create non-white emoji options
  • " Get the Filter Out (GTFO)" that cleaned up 3.7 million cigarette butts to protect the planet

Why I Want to Intern for Do Something

Although interning in New York City and getting paid to do so both may seem like valid reasons to intern for Do Something, I truly want to intern for this organization because of the passion and commitment its employees have for bettering the Earth. To be able to learn about finances while still expressing creativity and passion is the ideal dream opportunity for a finance major with my personality
