Jorge Mario Bergoglio, also known as Pope Francis, was born in Flores, Buenos Aires on December 17th, 1936. Pope Francis is a popular religious figure in the catholic and non-catholic community. Over his time of being pope, he has gained respect throughout many different community's because of his willingness to stoop down to live as a common person instead of living in luxury. One quote that shows this is this quote "We must restore hope to young people, help the old, be open to the future, spread love. Be poor among the poor. We need to include the excluded and preach peace".

Impact and Achievements

Many people believe that he is a very generous relatable man, consider all that he has done for the people. He regularly visits abuse victims and the poor that are in need, sometimes he even visits prisoners that are in need of religious guidance.

I believe that Religious and ethical systems, and Cultural Interaction would fit best for my Latin American Icon. One reason for Religious and Ethical systems is because he is making changes to the beliefs of the religion. He is letting the churches be more open to who can seek shelter in the church and the traditions of the church are less strict. One reason for Cultural Interaction is him visiting and preaching at other countries to spread the word f his system. He visits poverty ridden families and countries. This quote supports this claim, "Find new ways to spread the word of God to every corner of the world". Pope Francis wants to give his help and guidance to anyone that needs or wants it.
