How Water relates to Big History kylie Pickett

What is Big History and how does it relate to Water?

Big History is an emerging academic class which examines history from the Big Bang to the present. It examines long time frames using many different approachs based on combining numerous disciplines from science and the humanities, and explores human existence in the context of this bigger picture.

Water is a transparent and nearly colorless chemical substance that is the main constituent of Earth's streams, lakes, and oceans, and the fluids of most living organisms.

Water is vital to everything on this earth. For us to even think about having water we need the perfect Goldilocks conditions. Perfect distance from the sun, perfect temperature and the right surface movement are the conditions that water needs to stay flowing and good for organisms to use.

What Thresholds does water Relate to?

The First threshold that water relates to is threshold 4. Threshold 4 is Earth and the Solar System. Earth is a main part about water for it is the only place in the solar system where water can take on a liquid form. For on the planets in between the Sun and Earth there is no such thing as water for it is too hot for it to take on any form but steam. From the planets 'behind' earth the only form water can take on is ice and glaciers.

Life is Threshold 5 and it's another main part about water for everything on this planet that is living needs water in order to survive. Water alone makes up 83% of us, 70% of the earth is covered in water and more than 50% of it is locked up. But still my point here is that we need water to survive without it we are nothing, we are dead, we would be nothing! As well as life as we know it would have never existed.

Threshold 7 is Agriculture, in order to succeed, farming needs just the right amounts of everything (soil, nutrients, water, etc.) After farming increased the population also increased. Animals were domesticated and the farmers discovered new ways to construct buildings. The farmers spread out into wooded and somewhat arid regions.
