Background

  • Reagan was born on February 6, 1911 in Illinois.
  • He became involved with Hollywood, and eventually was the SAG ( Screen Actors Guild) president .
  • He gave a televised speech for Republican Barry Goldwater. This speech gave him attention
  • He decided to run for governor in California and he won the election.
  • Reagan ran for President and was elected at the age of 69. He was sworn into office January 20, 1981.

John Hinckley Jr.

  • only 25 years old at the time of the attempted assassination.
  • “Taxi Driver”
  • Hinckley stalked Jodie Foster's entire life, wrote her letters confessing his love for her, and sometimes even stood outside of her dorm room trying to wait for her to show up.
  • Hinckley was found not guilty by reason of insanity. Instead, He was placed in a hospital with physiatrist supervision.

What Happened

He was shot and left wounded in the chest. Although Reagan survived, he still suffered partial paralysis. This attempt also wounded 4 other people.
