TORNADO MEN'S WRESTLING 2017-18 Season Preview

A season ago, the King University men's wrestling team posted their best finish since joining NCAA Division II, finishing 21st at the NCAA Division II National Championships. Head Coach Jason Moorman finds his squad ranked in the NWCA Coaches' Poll for the first time in the preseason rankings as they check in at 21st. Moorman also returns some firepower for 2017-18 in the form of All-Americans in Dustin Kirk and Bryce Killian.

  • First Tornado to be ranked #1 at his weight class

  • Went 23-9 on the season, including three major decisions and five pins

Bryce Killian

  • All-American after finishing seventh at the NCAA Division II championships
  • First team All-ECAC
  • Went 8-4 on the season, taking three wins by major decision and two by technical fall
  • Finished runner-up at NCAA Super Region II Championships

Joey Mammolenti

Jr. | 174 lbs. | South Bend, Ind.
  • Went 20-13 last season, recording six wins by pin
  • Won the King Open at the 174 pound weight class
  • Academic All-ECAC selection

Reed Jacks

r-Sr. | 125 lbs. | Alabaster, Ala.
  • Second team All-ECAC selection
  • Overall record of 14-9 last season
  • Won the King Open at the 125 pound weight class

Head Coach

Head Coach: Jason Moorman

In his three years at the helm of the men's wrestling program, Moorman has seen the Tornado improve and finish 21st in the nation in 2016-17. In 2016, the program also saw their first NCAA National Championship qualifier since 2012 and last season the Tornado had a pair of All-Americans for the first time since that 2012 season.
