2010

CWT creates a new global organization for its energy, resources and marine clients, providing integrated services by some of the industry's most skilled professionals, many of whom have more than 20 years' travel management and business experience in the highly specialized energy sector.

2011

CWT expands its presence in Latin America with two acquisitions: Centenial Group, its partner in Costa Rica since 2004, in October, and Net Tour Viagens E Turismo LTDA (Net Tours) in Brazil in November.

2012

In May, CWT starts its mobile services offering with the launch of CWT To Go, a free mobile services application that allows travelers to access their travel itineraries directly from their mobile devices while on their trips.

2013

In February, CWT acquires Kaleva Travel Ltd., its partner since 1995, with operations in Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Romania.

2017

Kurt Ekert was appointed President and Chief Executive Officer of Carlson Wagonlit Travel (CWT) in April 2016. He works from CWT’s offices in Paris and Minneapolis.

Kurt has extensive industry and international experience, having previously served as Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer of Travelport. He was responsible for the firm’s global sales, customer engagement, product, marketing, pricing, supplier services/content, and commercial operations. He led the operational turnaround of Travelport to enable its evolution from private equity and hedge fund ownership to a successful IPO.

He also held a number of other operating and business development roles during his career at Travelport, including Chief Operating Officer of GTA and Senior Vice President of Supplier Services. Before Travelport, Kurt held a number of senior finance roles at Continental Airlines, and also spent four years as an active duty U.S. Army officer.

Kurt received a B.S. from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a MBA from the University of South Carolina. He serves as a director of Passur Aerospace, an advisor to Freebird and previously served on the board of eNett International.

He is also a member of the U.S. Department of Commerce Travel and Tourism Advisory Board (TTAB).
