Parents and children are invited to attend the Citrus County Sheriff’s Summer Safety & Youth Expo to get a jump start on finding new ways to keep kids safe this summer.
The free 14th annual expo is from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 29 at the Citrus County Auditorium, 3610 S. Florida Ave., Inverness.
They’ll be safety-focused activities and giveaways, including a bike rodeo, free string backpacks, bike helmets and a firefighter challenge for kids. The Citrus County Branch of the YMCA will also host a “Healthy Kids Area” and provide information on summer camps.
“It’s just to refresh parents’ memories of what needs to be done during the summer,” sheriff Community Resource Officer Michele Tewell said. “We just want to drive home that information.”
This year’s expo will also feature a water-safety component, to teach parents and their children safe ways to swim.
