We are in full swing now that our "K" friends have joined us. These days can be a bit long in terms of drop-off and pick-ups, so your understanding in line is noted. The trade off is a bustling building that is just packed full of smiles, intrigue, and wonder.

News From Our Nurse
JRB Music news:
Chorus News: JRB Chorus registrations will close this Friday, Sept. 6th. We will begin rehearsing on Friday, September 13th BEFORE school from 7:30-8:20am in the music room. A purple signup flyer was sent home last week with all 3rd, 4th & 5th graders. Mrs. Lordan has extra copies, or you can access it here: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1RkYy4Of_i1APsbkvzRgtjfLqsRmyy2Lqaiip8Lk6NcM/edit?usp=sharing
Band News: A representative from David French Music will give a demonstration of the band instruments for grades 3-5 during school on Thursday, September 5th. A form will go home with all 3rd, 4th & 5th graders for students to rent an instrument through David French Music if needed. The form can also be found here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B9AKRd_geIZuRlNPaEhuX19YQ3ZMNEZoZm5nSnFjTUdDZWU0/view?usp=sharing
Please order your instrument rental online at https://davidfrenchmusic.com or by calling (508) 366-5994 by Sept. 12th, so that instruments can be delivered to JRB on Sept. 16th in order to begin lessons that week. If you order after this date, we can certainly accommodate you!
CORRECTION: For NEW band students, Beginner Band rehearsals will be held on Tuesdays AFTER school, START DATE TBA, from 3-4pm, on the stage. New musicians need a few weeks of lessons under their belts before rehearsing with the rest of the band. We are hoping to begin LESSONS the week of September 16th. It is required that band students take either private or small group lessons on their instrument, which cost $20 for each private 30-minute lesson per week (group rates generally run at $10 per 30-minute lesson). We offer mostly after school lessons here at JRB, but some instructors may offer before school lessons as well.
Please sign up for lessons using the following link:
For RETURNING BAND STUDENTS, Advanced Band rehearsals will be held Wednesdays AFTER school from 3-4pm, on the stage, and Jazz Band immediately following from 4-5pm. CORRECTION: We are hoping to begin the week of September 9th, rather than the 16th, if possible. Mrs. Lordan will meet with Advanced Band members immediately following Thursday’s instrument demo to discuss rehearsals. If you are in need of lessons, please email Mrs. Lordan directly at: email@example.com
MUSIC LESSONS FOR GRADES K-5: JRB also offers lessons for students in grades K-5 for voice, piano, guitar, ukulele and violin. If your child is interested in lessons for any of these instruments, please email Mrs. Lordan at firstname.lastname@example.org, and she will put you in touch with an instructor who has openings for that instrument.
As always, any questions can be directed to Mrs. Lordan: email@example.com
Parent/Guardian Help Needed
Volunteer Carpenter Needed
Ms. Davis and Ms. Bennett are looking for a volunteer to work with fifth-grade students on several engineering projects in September. Students will be building a handicap-accessible bridge across the drainage ditch that separates the parking lot from the science garden and several "learning stations" for the nature trail. If you have time during the school day, basic carpentry skills, and access to a power saw, we need you! Please email Ms. Davis at firstname.lastname@example.org if you are interested or would like more information.
WANTED: A Few More Umbrellas!
Do you have an extra umbrella taking up space in your closet or car? This year we have changed our bus dismissal process to skip the part where kids line up in the hall before getting on buses. Students are going directly from classrooms to buses. We tried it yesterday and it went quite well! To help with this we have some 5th grade bus leaders who are holding bus signs to help other students locate their bus (don't worry lots of staff helping too!). Our bus leaders will be standing on the sidewalk next to their buses come rain or shine, so we would love to have a basket of umbrellas available to them on rainy days. If you have an umbrella to donate, send it on in to the front office and thank you ahead of time!
