Anderson vs. Coker Game Preview

The Coker College men's basketball team will kick off 2019 by hosting the Anderson Trojans at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday (Jan. 5) in the DeLoach Center. The Cobras will be playing their first conference game in almost three weeks after the holiday break. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for students and free to all Coker faculty, staff and students.

The Coker College men's basketball team finished the 2017-18 season with a 12-17 overall record, including an impressive 9-11 showing versus South Atlantic Conference opponents. The Cobras are currently 2-9 this season, with victories over Limestone and Southern Wesleyan.

Player to Watch

Lindsey enjoyed a breakout game against DI, USC Upstate, scoring 16 points, and hitting all seven of his shots from the field. The freshman from Spartanburg Day played basketball and soccer in the high school while being selected All-State and All-Region twice. He's received more playing time over Coker's past two games, notching 15 minutes against Queens, and 21 minutes against the Spartans.

The Cobras feature five transfers, including 6-9 center Abdulsalam Sarki and former Coastal Carolina guard Jaylan Robertson. Both players should figure prominently in Coker's rotation during the 2018-19 season.

Anderson finished 10-19 overall last season, including a 8-12 mark in South Atlantic Conference play. The Trojans are off to an impressive 8-5 start this season, and have won three of their last four games. They've been led offensively by Gage Ellis, who ranks second in the conference at 20.8 points per game.

Anderson was picked by South Atlantic Conference coaches to finish eighth overall in the 2018-19 men's basketball preseason poll. The Eagles and Cobras met twice last year, with Coker winning both games.

Player to Watch

Shaw enters Saturday's game averaging 13.1 points per game on the season, but 19.3 over the Trojans' past three games. The senior guard notched a season-high 27 points against Lees-McRae (Dec. 30). Shaw scored 13 points in Anderson's loss to Coker at the end of last season.
