The Weston Weekly January 8, 2021

Welcome back! I hope everyone had a healthy and safe holiday. The students came back eager to learn and have worked very hard this week. A reminder that Monday, January 18 is Martin Luther King day and there will be no school. This year, inclement weather days will be very different for our students. Please be sure to read below. Have a restful weekend!

Inclement Weather - In the event of inclement weather this year, we will continue to use the virtual learning model so that new instruction can be delivered and the year not be extended to make up for the missed day(s). Unlike with past snow days, we will be utilizing more “live” instruction which will mirror a typical school day. During a snow day, your students day will begin at 8:30 am and all instruction will conclude by 2:00pm. Your teacher will contact you with more specific information when the need arises.

Current Events: News reports that your child may have seen or heard this week may have caused confusion, anxiety, and/or fear. You may have heard questions such as "Am I going to be okay", "Are you going to be okay", or "Why is this happening"? Please feel free to call Mrs. Miller if you have any questions or concerns for your child(ren). The information from the National Association of School Psychologists gives some helpful tips for parents that can help children feel safe. Box Tops: Thank you to all families who are contributing General Mills Box Tops to our collection program or who are using the Box Top app. General Mills is slowly transferring all collections over to the Box Top app. and so we are asking our families to begin using it as often as possible.

The Box Tops app is very convenient as it can be used to scan your store receipt, find participating products, and instantly add cash to Weston's earnings online. The Box Tops app can be downloaded at the Apple App. Store. More information is available at https://www.boxtops4education.com/

Blessing Boxes: A new Blessing Box for food has been placed in Riley Park near the tennis courts. This is a location where individuals can come in to get several items of non-perishable food items from the cabinet, free of charge. It is designed as a short-term solution for those who temporarily have unmet needs.

The Indiana Dept. of Education is sharing these fun Learning Challenges to do over the holiday break….and all are designed without technology in mind. These are great activities to ask your child to try on their own or with a little help. https://www.doe.in.gov/sites/default/files/resources/winter-continuous-learning-challenge.pdf
