Caribbean nEWSLETTER TERM 1 2020

Welcome to the first term of 2020! We hope you all had a wonderful holiday break. The Caribbean teaching team are looking forward to a wonderful year ahead. This newsletter outlines the Caribbean learning programs for Term 1.

  • Thursday 5 March: Year 1 Excursion - Riverside Theatre
  • Thursday 5 March: Cybersafety Parent Presentation - Years 2-6
  • Friday 20 March: National Day of Action Against Bullying
  • Monday 23 March - Wednesday 25 March: Year 5 & Year 6 camp - Blue Mountains/Bathurst
  • Monday 30 March - Friday 3 April: Student-led Conferences
  • Thursday 9 April:¬†ANZAC Day Assembly & Last Day of Term 1


Mainstream integration will continue to be a priority for Caribbean students. Personalised timetables will be developed once the mainstream class teachers confirm their class schedules.

Integration classes will be advised at the Meet the Teacher evening this Thursday.


Students in Caribbean will participate in Physical Education (PE) with their mainstream classes. Please ensure your child wears their sport uniform on their designated days.


Caribbean will require their library bags each Thursday.

You will be notified about an additional Library day if your child attends Library as part of their mainstream integration program.


Mr Burfoot will be conducting STEAM lessons with Caribbean each Friday.

IEP GOal Setting

Week 7 & 8

This term we will be confirming your child's goals for their 2020 Individualised Education Plans with you.

Meetings will be held in Week 7 and 8. Further information regarding scheduling will be available shortly.

At these meetings, your child's Key Teacher will provide goals for you to comment on and contribute to, covering the following categories:

  • Communication
  • Behaviour Regulation
  • Integration
  • Life Skills
  • Social Skills
  • Playground

Once you agree to the goals listed in your child's IEP, we ask that you sign the end page of this document which will be also signed by your child's Key Teacher.

HOME reading

Home readers will be sent home each Wednesday. We ask that they be returned the following Wednesday. Please see below a parent guide with some strategies on how you can help at home.

Parent helpers

Caribbean love having parent helpers in the classroom. At our Meet the Teacher evening, we will ask you to list the times that you are able to offer your support.

Parent helpers will be needed for:

  • school excursions
  • cooking lessons
  • art lessons
  • science lessons
  • MultiLit reading program

You must complete a volunteers Working With Children Check form each year and hand it into the office before you are able to volunteer within the classroom.
